His father, Samuel Ogulu, is from Mbiama, Rivers State. His mother, Bose, also known as “Mama Burna,” is a translator, academic, and businessperson, who is now his manager. His sister, Nissi Ogulu, is also a singer.
Burna Boy’s maternal grandfather is broadcaster and music critic Benson Idonije. Benson was born in Otuo, Owan East, Edo State, and was the first manager of legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti.
Burna Boy often uses the Yoruba language in his music, but it is not clear if his ancestry is fully Yoruba.
